What I have already done
My name is Saul, and I was previously the Co-president of Glasgow (RIP), Edinburgh, and Oatridge in 2024-2025. I originally studied Horticulture before jumping into the Co-presidency role.
Now I am a Y3 Environmental Management student at Edinburgh. During my time with SRUCSA, I helped guide SRUC towards the appointment of our head of student services, a completely new role within the organisation designed to further improve support for students.
I engaged with our support staff, conducted interviews and worked hard presenting papers detailing the stresses our support staff were under. I took my papers all the way up to the top, engaging with ELT and gaining the opportunity to be on the interview committee, directly improving student support services.
I worked with staff and externals in setting up events at Oatridge after classes, including football and badminton sessions. I was an active member of the SRUC board, as well as crucial committees such as student support and engagement and Learning and Teaching.
I understand the importance of closing feedback loops and ensuring students feel heard and have something to show from their engagement to help improve SRUC. I am no stranger to fighting for students' right to study; I attended countless panels and meetings fighting for students' right to study and always fought for what was best for the students.
What I will accomplish
-
I know how to make our voice count! - Using connections and skills I learnt in my previous presidency, I know how to get a point across effectively within meetings. Now, my connections with staff and students and understanding of what it takes to ‘get things done’ from my previous time will allow me to jump straight back in.
-
Listen to students – You, the student, are the most important part of SRUC; your opinions matter, and your voices should be propelled to the highest level. If you have a problem, you can come to me, and we will sort it.
Let’s push for a better future for everyone!
