My name is Amelia (Gracie) Beard, and I am running for the Postgraduate Student Member seat on SRUC's Academic Board.

I am currently pursuing an MSc in Project Management at SRUC's Edinburgh campus, where I also serve as a Class Representative. Originally from Texas, USA, I bring 5+ years of professional experience in higher education, including university administration, programme management, and student support. I also hold an MSc in Interdisciplinary Studies from Baylor University, where I focused on social work, nonprofit management, and communications.

As a board member, I would focus on three priorities:

Inclusion and Representation: Ensuring postgraduate students from diverse backgrounds, programmes, and campuses have opportunities to share their experiences and influence decisions affecting their education.

Academic Preparedness and Support: Advocating for clear academic expectations, accessible learning resources, and appropriate support to help students succeed, particularly those transitioning into postgraduate study.

Career Readiness and Professional Development: Encouraging greater opportunities for networking, professional development, and connections with employers to help students prepare for their future careers.

Having worked in higher education and experienced postgraduate study firsthand, I understand the importance of listening to students and ensuring their perspectives inform institutional decisions. I'd be proud to represent SRUC's postgraduate community!
