I would welcome the opportunity to represent students’ views, experiences and concerns as an elected Academic Board Student Member, helping ensure that the student perspective is heard and considered in academic decision-making.
I am currently studying modules on the NC Horticulture with Landscape Construction course, having previously completed an MSc in Countryside Management. This has given me experience of different approaches to learning, both as a distance learner and through in-person teaching. Having also worked as a teacher, I understand education from both sides of the classroom and appreciate the importance of creating an inclusive, supportive and engaging learning environment.
Professionally, I have worked across the environmental sector, including at a regenerative agriculture start-up, as an environmental consultant, and in my current role as Biodiversity and Adaptation Lead at a Scottish university. These experiences have developed my skills in communication, collaboration and problem-solving, as well as my ability to engage with people from different backgrounds and perspectives. I would bring these skills to the Board, alongside a genuine interest in listening to students and ensuring their feedback is constructively represented.
Outside work and study, I am passionate about the outdoors and can often be found exploring the countryside around Edinburgh with my son and our dog—usually covered in mud! My interest in horticulture, landscapes and the environment reflects my enthusiasm for practical, meaningful learning.
I would be committed to representing students responsibly, contributing constructively to discussions and helping ensure that students’ experiences inform decisions affecting their education.
