Molly Quinn

SRUC CO-PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION AND QUALITY CANDIDATE

Dumfries | Barony campus | s30138373@sruc.ac.uk

I am applying to become Co-President of Education and Quality because I want to help make a genuine, lasting difference to the student experience at SRUC. As a student myself, I understand how important it is to feel supported, listened to and confident that your education is preparing you for your future. I would love the opportunity to represent students across SRUC, ensuring their voices are heard and that their feedback leads to meaningful, positive change.

As a second-year Rural Business Management student, I am passionate about getting the most out of my education and encouraging others to do the same. I achieved a distinction and a first in my first year, and I am determined to continue achieving to the best of my ability. However, I believe education is about much more than grades. Students should have access to high-quality teaching, appropriate support, relevant learning opportunities and a course that equips them with the knowledge, confidence and skills to succeed beyond college or university.

My current role as a Student Representative has given me valuable experience communicating with both students and academic staff. It has helped me understand the importance of listening to different perspectives, raising concerns constructively and working collaboratively to find solutions. I recognise that effective representation is not simply about speaking on behalf of students; it is about making sure they feel comfortable sharing their experiences and ensuring their feedback is taken seriously. I would bring this same approachable, proactive attitude to the role of Co-President.

I would also bring strong organisational, communication and leadership skills, developed through my academic studies, extracurricular commitments and volunteering experiences in sports such as rowing, field hockey and rugby. I am confident working with different people, managing responsibilities and approaching challenges with a practical, solution-focused mindset. I am willing to ask difficult questions when necessary, but equally understand the importance of building positive relationships with students, lecturers and senior staff to achieve the best outcomes.

If elected, I would prioritise strengthening communication between students and SRUC, improving the visibility and effectiveness of student representation, and ensuring that feedback is followed up with clear action wherever possible. I would also want to promote equality of opportunity, recognising that students have different circumstances, challenges and ambitions, and that every student deserves to feel included and supported. Above all, I would aim to make sure students know who represents them, how they can raise concerns and what is being done in response.

I would be incredibly proud to take on this responsibility. I would bring enthusiasm, integrity, determination and a genuine willingness to listen, learn and work hard for the benefit of the student community. I am not applying simply to hold a position; I am applying because I want to help shape a better educational experience for current students and those who follow us. If elected, I would be committed to representing students fairly, turning their concerns into constructive action and helping make SRUC a place where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
