My name is Morven Hastie, I am currently studying Rural Animal Health at SRUC, and I have just applied to study veterinary medicine.
I have had an unconventional journey into higher education due to years of health struggles and absence from school. However, my health is much improved and I am keen to advocate for my fellow students. I am neurodivergent and have spent years advocating for equal opportunities around health and protected characteristics.
I already work with a charity called Equate Scotland to support and promote women and non-binary individuals in STEM, attending many events and taking part in engagement activities.
I believe in equality and fairness, and as a disabled, neurodivergent woman I believe that institutions should be adhering to the principles of inclusive practices.
In this role as a member of Academic Board I will ensure that I put forward a very effective student voice around any proposals, policies and strategies that are presented to the Academic Board from an Equality, Diversity and inclusive (EDI) perspective.
I will be a supportive member of the group, and will offer scrutiny where required to ensure I can represent the views of our student body.
