Hi. I’m Craig Ward and I am running for Co-President of Education and Quality. I am running because I want to put my life experience to good use. Having studied as a young man, and now as a middle-aged man, I have a broad personal perspective on the student experience.

I’m a 57 year-old philosophy graduate who was a professional musician for 25 years, then a hotelier, and now a woodland crofter, studying (part-time) towards a BSc in Horticulture.

I completed my first two years of the BSc at UHI where, last year, I held a similar position at the Highlands and Islands Student Association. As Argyll Depute President I worked to synchronise student services across a large and fractured geographic region. I also served on a project committee at STEP (Scotland’s Tertiary Enhancement Programme) wherein we successfully introduced a promise of clear communication standards among Scottish colleges.

I’m a firm believer in education for education’s sake. We must maximise opportunities for cross-pollination and practical experience. I believe SRUC has high standards in this regard. I want to know how these could be higher still.

We need graduates who are clear thinkers on how to move forward. We an ecological mindset – maintenance before exploitation, collaboration before competition, people before profit.
