If you have an idea for a club or society that isn’t offered at your campus, SRUCSA would be happy to help you set it up!
We have dedicated staff that can provide advice, support and funding to get you going.
Your society:
- Can be any kind of club that takes part in any kind of activity
- Doesn’t have to be related to a course or subject delivered by SRUC
- May need specific resources (equipment, space, transport etc.). SRUCSA can help source and pay for these

How To Start a Society
To start you need a minimum of three students to fulfill the commitee roles of President (also called Chair), Secretary and Treasurer. If you like, your society can also add more committee members.
Once you have three students happy to fulfill these roles, all you need to do is complete the Society Constitution template and send it to the above email address.
Then our officers will have a look at it and our staff will get back to you to take the next steps.
Society Funding
SRUCSA has a budget for societies. You can apply for this funding by completing a Society Funding Request and by sending it back to the email address mentioned above.
We normally get back to you within a week with the outcome (approved, approved in part, or rejected).
Please reach out to have a chat about the funding request if you have questions. It's up to you and your committee to decide if you want to charge for your society's membership, if you you do we'd advise to open a society bank account.
Society Bank Account
It's important to note that you don't need to have set up a society bank account (also called a community account) at the stage of starting a society, but it may come handy to create one once your society is running.
There is a range of options at different banks. This article gives you a couple of tips on finding ones that don't charge fees.
Student Athletes and Sport Funding
SRUCSA can help support those of you that compete in an individual sport, we can help pay for transport and entry fees for events. In the past, individuals have represented SRUCSA at national level running and mountain biking events.
We have also helped support those who have competed at a national level in a team sport. In the past, we have helped students play for the Scottish Shinty University team and the Scottish Rugby League team.
Complete an individual affiliation form and a funding request to give us more information about what you plan to do in your sport.
