Keeping up with SRUCSA April 2022

April came and went in a flash, it’s lovely to see things coming back to life, the flowers, plants and trees and our campuses. Have you been back on campus recently and enjoyed seeing more people around? For us, April is a time of recognising people for the efforts that have put in throughout the year

Recognition

One of the things that have gone really well for us this month is SRUCSA Awards. Our Annual opportunity to tell the staff and students you have spent the year with that you appreciate them. We asked students to nominate people for the following categories.

  • Staff Member of the year
  • Student of the year
  • Innovative Teaching Award
  • Supervisor of the Year
  • Club / Society / Student Group of the Year

We have received over 110 nominations many with beautiful explanations of why they have chosen to put this person forward for an award. Each nominated person will receive a certificate and a copy of all the nice things people have said about them (anonymised). We have organised a panel of students and staff who will look through the nominations and choose a winner for each category.

Green Health Week

This year Fi Brown our Disabled Students Liberation Officer suggested we run an awareness week focussing on how being outdoors and connecting with nature can help your mental wellbeing. We formed a small group of students and SRUCSA officers who worked super hard to pull together a cross SRUC Event. This led to our Green Health Week, which is running next week. We have more about it in this other blogpost. With events being run in person across the country and online. It’s not too late to sign up

Being on campus

Making your visits to campus exciting and fun as well as informative and useful is really important to us. We want to make sure you have space to relax and chat as well as focus and collaborate. One step towards this is making sure you can find us on campus. We are working with SRUC to make sure that we have dedicated SRUCSA space and that it is signposted. At Kings Buildings (Edinburgh) we have an office by the library and as part of the libary revamp we are getting some signage put up by our office.

Planning the future

All year we have been plugging away at our new strategy. This month we met with SRUC Academic Leadership Team to talk about joint priorities. We will be using this discussion to put the final touches to our Strategic plan and will be launching it next year with our new SRUCSA Team.

Celebrating the small things

To celebrate spring, we did a small photo competition. We got a bunch of amazing entries and selected a winner.
