Green Health Week 2022!

Throughout history, urban planners have taken inspiration from nature, from the Hanging Gardens of Babylon to the orange gardens of Seville. People who live in a concrete jungle of a town or city often never appreciated green spaces around them until the Covid-19 pandemic, where they became an unexpected source of calm and joy.

Studies have also shown that exposure to nature improves sleep and reduces stress, increases happiness, and reduces negative emotions, and helps promote positive social interactions. Many aspects of thinking, including attention, memory, and creativity, are boosted when a person is in a green environment, both for those with and without depression.

To help us all get an extra boost of nature, SRUCSA have launched their first ever Green Health Week, which coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week, running from Monday, 9th May. It will focus on the benefits of nature to help improve your mental health and wellbeing. Connecting you with nature, this week offers resources and ideas to help you access the outdoors and improve your physical, mental, and social wellbeing.

Furthermore, some of the activities may influence or help in future careers, for example designing a planting scheme for wildlife, and learning more about bees or butterflies from an online talk. Equally, it could be something you and your classmates do regularly as a social activity, for example litter picking on campus.

Whether it is online or in person, we look forward to you joining us to get our nature fix. Green Health Week timetable of activities and sign-up links can be found below:
