SRUCSA Statement regarding the consultation on closures at Elmwood Campus
On June 1st SRUC announced that it is starting a consultation regarding a proposal to close the Golf Course and Student Residences. We are shocked and saddened by the proposals and are aware that many students will be adversely affected- particularly the most vulnerable students who are dependent on student residencies.
SRUCSA believes that a residential experience is an important part of the SRUC study experience, and over the last year we have been consulting with residential students and asking SRUC to invest and make appropriate improvements to its residential facilities.
It is important that students understand that a consultation is a way to formally collect thoughts and opinions from people, that will inform discussions and help with decision-making. This means that student thoughts and opinions matter. Student feedback given during the consultation is important and will be considered when SRUC makes its decision about the proposal to close the Golf Course and the Student Residencies.
SRUC Students’ Association are currently assisting students in dealing with this shocking news and is here to support all students through this difficult time. We will work hard to make sure that your voices are heard.
With this in mind, we invite all students affected by this proposal, and those who wish to express their opinion on the closures, to please email SRUCSA@sruc.ac.uk – as soon as possible. Please do not delay. We will be gathering information and presenting the stories of our students to SRUC.
