Open Door – Cancelled

What was it?
Open Door was a project which launched in the beginning of November 2020. The aim was to allow students to drop-in and chat to a member of the SRUCSA team at a consistent scheduled time, on a weekly basis.  Students accessed this through the SRUCSA Moodle page.

What happened?
Unfortunately, engagement with Open Door was low. Consultation with Class Reps took place to find out what the problem might be. Students said that themes might draw engagement, with students being able to turn up to sessions that interest them. Students also suggested holding Open Door less frequently and on different days.  These changes were made and Open Door was relaunched in February 2021 with a pre-determined calendar of themes made available to students. Open Door was changed to take place fortnightly with a monthly theme. These themes were SRUCSA Elections, Clubs and Societies, SRUCSA Awards, Exams and Assessment, and Meet the New Team. Even still, there were issues with engagement. Students had commented that they weren’t hearing about these kind of events.

What now?
For now, SRUCSA has made the decision to cancel Open Door. We think that it’s a good project, but we haven’t been able to invest the right time or resources into promoting it or making interactive sessions for each theme, in order to make the sessions a success. We are instead encouraging students to get in touch with SRUCSA by booking a time to chat – students can book time with any SRUCSA team member (staff members Douglas and James, or Co-Presidents Amy, Cara and Kevin) via this link https://www.srucsa.org.uk/talk-with-us/
