Keeping Up with SRUCSA – April 2021

April was a super busy month, and we got lots done for our students, it’s a big list, so we put the things we are most excited about at the top in case you don’t make it to the end. We welcome all questions, praise and criticisms, so please get in touch

  • We held a quiz event which was well attended by students from across SRUC who had a great time.
  • We met with SRUC students Jamie McCulloch and Yuzhi Zeng who are working in SRUC as student interns to research SRUC communities
  • We held an open planning session for a campaign we will be running all year to increase awareness of the problems of Gender Based Violence
  • Ran nominations for the SRUCSA awards, and received so many lovely comments from students about their course staff and about their course mates.
  • We met with the North Faculty Dean to talk about why the Professional Cookery Course will not run this year. Thanks to our professional cookery Class Reps for providing challenging questions.
  • Craibstone campus is getting a revamped library area, and we are making sure it is designed student first by taking part in the design process.
  • We felt energised ⚡ and learned British Sign Language signing at the deaf awareness 🧏‍♀️ workshop, and we made a super short video for Deaf Awareness month which will go out on SRUC social media.
  • We will be joined by a new temporary staff member who will be helping us with communications and community growth
  • At the National Union of Student National conference, we took part in the activities and ensured the SRUC student voice was heard at a UK level.
  • We held Student Panels for our Class Reps in the North and Central Faculties
  • We attended SRUC Board meeting and gave an update on our activities including our successful elections.
  • It was time to review our class rep system and have been speaking to staff at SRUC and experts outside SRUC to understand what is needed and what is possible.
  • We got two SRUC staff members to take part in a national event ‘Innovations in Digital Student Communities’
  • We spoke with SRUCSA Vision workshops with students to ensure we are creating the best SRUCSA for our students
  • Met with the IT team at SRUC to talk about how they could serve students better
  • We took part in a workshop with SRUC staff to understand what lecture capture will be like at SRUC
  • We met with the Rural entrepreneurship team at SRUC to discuss students running innovation projects
  • We met with an SRUC Board member to start making improvements to the Student Liaison Committee meetings where students can directly question SRUC board members
  • We learned about democracy, the climate emergency, leadership and building communities with NUS Lunch and Learn sessions.
  • Our class reps had a conversation with a visiting group from Landex who were in looking at improvements SRUC could make.
  • We attended a catch-up up session with the NUS national officers and Student Representative from around Scotland.
  • We attended Rural Mental Health Forum read Cara’s report on what went on
  • Met with SRUC Careers advisers to talk about the new careers service
  • We met with the EIS staff union to keep good relations with the staff union
  • Gave a report to Edinburgh Uni on our activities as part of the annual meeting between Edinburgh Uni and SRUC
  • We attended an event AdvanceHE ‘Students as Partners’ event
  • SRUCSA staff attended Student Engagement Staff Network
  • We had our SRUCSA Executive meeting.
  • We Attended Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee
