Free Money!

Of course we want the money to go to good use, but as the title says: we're giving out grants for various reasons and for various uses. What's more: there's funding available in SRUC. This article tells you exactly for what you can apply and how you can apply.

As a side note: where SITL (sky is the limit) is noted in terms of amount for which you can apply, unfortunately we don't have unlimited funds. Still our main objective is to ensure students can participate in any activity without having to go out of pocket - so be as open with your plan as you can even if you think it will be costly.

Society Start Up/Continue Grant - £50

For Whom? All new societies and all societies that continue from last Academic Year into the new one. In short: every single society is eligible.

For What? There's a list of things on which this money can be spend, read it in this article.

How do I apply? Just send an email to Jeroen Herk or the SRUCSA mailbox (using the SRUC email ending).

Individual Project Funding - SITL

For Whom? All students who are looking to do an activity that would benefit them or other students.

For What? If there's an activity you like to see hapening and believe will benefit you or students.

How do I apply? All students can apply through a funding request.

Athlete Funding - SITL

For Whom? Students interested in taking part in sport activities or going to a competition.

For What? This funding can help you covering the competition costs, equipment costs, transport costs or anything else needed to make sure you can take part.

How do I apply? For this we ask you to fill in a individual affiliation form. Completed and send it to Jeroen Herk or SRUCSA (with SRUC email ending) and we'll get in touch. Once you're affiliated you can apply through a funding request.

Society Bank Award - £100

For Whom? Societies who open a community bank account. Community accounts are handy for societies because they're free (if you can't find a free one let us know and we can find you one), they allow for multiple committee members to have access, and they can be passed on to new committee members when former members stop their committee roles.

For What? Well, that's up to you as a society, but hopefully you put it to good use :-)

How do I apply? Just contact Jeroen Herk to say you have opened a society bank account with the details and we send the money into the bank account.

General Society Funds

For Whom? Societies, just as it says on the tin.

For What? Up to the society, as long as it benefits its members. The only requirement is that you're a SRUCSA affiliated society (if not, fill in the Society Constitution and send it to us).

How do I apply? By filling in this form and sending it to me or to SRUCSA (+SRUC email ending) who then probably send it to me. The officers decide over all funding requests in Weekly Meetings, so you'll normally hear back within a week.

SRUC Discretionary Funds

For Whom? All students. These funds are not handled SRUCSA but SRUC's students support team. Nevertheless, we encourage all students to apply for the funding available to them because the cost-of-living crisis is very real and it affects a lot of students.

For What? there is a whole list of funds and grants for which you can apply and which specify the reasons. The scope is wide and it is better to apply than not apply! Also, if you want to speak about any welfare related issues the Student Support Team at each campus is really great and are here for you. We also have Alex, our SRUCSA Co-President for Welfare and Communities, who is here to champion welfare issues and defend your student rights.

How do I apply? Take a look on this page where you can read more, fill in a form and get in contact with someone from the students support team. For information about foodbanks near your campus take a look at this page

Carnegie Trust Grant - £1820 per year

For Whom? All students. This one is specifically to help undergraduate students in Higher Education with paying tuition fees. However, if you need financial support of any kind we highly recommend looking for grants - because there are lots out there. Though we may report on some other grants in the future, if you need a good list of grants out there we recommend asking your AI machine of choice to list you ''all grants available to Scottish/International/rUK students studying in Scotland''.

For What? Taken directly from the website: the Undergraduate Tuition Fee Grants are aimed at individuals from low-income households who are ineligible for tuition fee support from the Scottish Government." The Carnegie Trust also have the Vacation Scholarships that allow students to apply for summer projects - but once again, there are lots of grants out there from other trusts and organisations as well, so have a look around or contact SRUC's Students Support Team!

How do I apply? Directly have a look on the website. There's an eligibility tracker and it'll tell you exactly what steps to take to complete your application.
