On the beautiful new bench

Forestry students from the Barony campus have made a gorgeous new bench to replace a broken bench in the Edinburgh King's Buildings campus. Now we're inviting our KB students to decorate it with messages of hope and inspiration for all future bench-dwellers 😃👏🏻

While giving campus tours during welcome week, I promised students that I would replace a very sad, broken bench in a pretty area near the glasshouses. The unusable bench is in a special little nook next to a pond (with frogs!) that I liked to visit when studenting became overwhelming.

Instead of buying a bench in a bench shop, like a sensible person potentially would, I decided to commission one from our Forestry students over at Barony, and go on a little adventure in a van to bring it to King's Buildings.

We thought it would be lovely for KB students to come and write messages on the bench to give some hope and encouragement to anyone who pops down to the pond to enjoy a bit of peaceful space-staring and nature recharge.

As everything is better with cake, I am turning it into a tiny pond party on Monday 15th December over lunch. We'll provide sharpies and snacks, and hope you'll come by and say hi 👋🏻
